Industry Trends: Going Green
Over the past decade, sustainable development has gained significant momentum and importance within the industry. Developers are increasingly prioritizing buildings that are not only cost-effective but also environmentally responsible. These efforts range from sustainable architectural and civil design to the use of eco-conscious building materials. Beyond the obvious environmental advantages, such practices also enhance a structure’s resilience and adaptability in the face of an uncertain climate future. Additionally, these features and practices, such as green roofs, permeable pavements, and sustainable materials have become desirable to consumers and will quickly become the standard. Also on the horizon–if not a bit further out–are smart cities planned with the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) in mind, meaning infrastructure and public works are increasingly installed with devices and sensors allowing for real-time data on resource usage and consumption. While smart cities integrated with IoT, benefiting living and improving resource management, may be something to look forward to, the use of eco-friendly materials and sustainable features are becoming the bare minimum for development fit for the future.
