A Stormwater Success Story

For Christian Brothers Automotive in Hixson, CEG designed for all the practical necessities of a high-traffic body shop: open and wide parking, clear visibility and access combined with appealing aesthetics.

Perhaps CEG’s most effective work lies in what you don’t immediately see.

Christian Bros. was constrained on two sides by a busy road and already-existing retention pond. To manage stormwater, CEG engineers invented an alternative plan that’s both practical and artistic.

Using curb cuts and a subtle redesign of the parking lot, CEG engineers created a natural way for stormwater to flow quickly and easily from asphalt surfaces.

Then, a permaculture ditch system was installed to capture, retain, filter and process stormwater runoff. Appearing like a natural part of the landscaping, the green-ditch system actually works like an elaborate and elongated retention pond, reducing runoff and preventing pollutants from re-entering the water table.

The result?

Proper, effective and out-of-sight stormwater management.

And one really good-looking automotive shop.

Services: conceptual planning, complete-site design, streetscaping and landscaping, environmental impact.
